Email Apocalypse

Spam isn’t the only thing to fear from your email.  Author, blogger, and podcaster Derek Gilbert joins me in the reaction chamber to discuss his novel The God Conspiracy.

Gilbert is a former radio personality who, accompanied by wife Sharon, examines the political and cultural landscape through the lens of scripture.  Derek and Sharon Gilbert post regular articles on their individual blog sites: Weapon of Mass Distraction, and Welcome to the Mind of a Writer.  They also host a forum, news articles, and the P.I.D. Radio podcast from a joint website: PID Radio. read more

As cool as it would be to interview the Spirit of Vengeance from behind the safety of a cell phone, I find it every bit as cool to spend a half-hour in the company of Phil Elmore.  For the past several years, Elmore has ghost written Executioner novels for Gold Eagle publishing; his latest novel Dangerous Tides prompted me to contact him and ask for the interview.

Elmore is a professional writer, offering a variety of services through his website, philelmore.com. He also publishes the Martialist, an online magazine concerned with self-defense as “the inalienable right of every human being”. Elmore writes a variety of columns on a variety of subjects for a variety of publishers, some of which are detailed on the front page of his website. read more

Fitness for Geeks

Many thanks to Tessa, who made time in her busy scheduled to speak with me about some basic fitness principles for geeks and others.  Get on to your local YMCA and get moving, burn some calories, build some muscle, and improve your health, wealth, and happiness!

Also, this week saw the release of the very first Critical Press Benefit book!  “Pathfinder” includes the story of American Indian WWII veteran Buck Hilton.  Buck relates some of his experiences growing up and in the war.  Supporting materials include articles on the “Pathfinders”, the 82nd Airborne, and the role of Native Americans in World War II.  Purchase a print copy from the Critical Press Lulu store, or download the ebook directly from the Critical Press Media website.  As a Benefit Edition, purchase of this book will benefit the Wounded Warriors Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping veterans and their families return to civilian life. read more

Changing Comic Book Habits

I take my microphone and kids to the park for a bear-free picnic. While they hopefully wear themselves out on the equipment, I talk about the way my comic book habits are changing.  I’m buying fewer monthly titles, and reading more trades from the library, digitizing my collection, and delving into goldenage public domain archives.  Check out the links, and don’t forget to help the Jesus Geek Podcast for Water!

Check the website library for FREE digital comic downloads!

Communist Honduras

Global politics doesn’t often enter into my thinking.  I leave the political scene to people like Derek and Sharon Gilbert who are more prepared and better informed than I.  Every now and then, something hits close to home and reminds me that our world is shrinking faster and faster each day.  In the Reaction Chamber with me today is my brother David, Sgt Crutchfield of the US Army.  He gives us the lowdown of what’s going on in Honduras, and why we should be concerned.  Heed the call to action by contacting your federal representatives and expressing your concern, and the desire for specific action.  Check the feed in a day or so for a suitable form letter concerning the communist takeover of Honduras by Venezuala. read more

Vacation From 3-ft High

Now that vacation is over, I can move on with summer and the serious task of relaxing.  I’ve got the whole summer in front of me, and loads of stuff to do.  I’m going to be marketing the Atomic Earth game to industrial distributers amid shaky economic times, among other things.  I’m going to start some charity fundraising projects utilizing my pasison for writing, and you can find the write-up for that on the site under “Submission Info”.

First and foremost, I’ve got to talk about the vacation with those people who really matter, and remind myself what it was like to vacation from 3 feet high. read more

Lion’s Gate Marvels

Marvel Comics has really dominated the animated movie landscape for the past three years or so.  I take the time to look at the recent offerings from Lion’s Gate and break down the subtext of my favorite films.  They’re all good stuff, and I recommend any of them.  This week introduces a few new things, including the Fanboyarama section of the Amazon store, and the podsafe album of the week.  This week, we’re doing Marvel Heroes in animation, and the music selection is “Manifestations” by Synaecide.  Check it out in the tabber box! read more

Savage Detectives

I realize we’re only two episodes into the new television season, but I’m really impressed with Nathan Fillon’s new crime drama “Castle”.  I get my father on the phone for a better perspective of television crime through the years, and wrap it up with a review of the newest addition to my gaming library – Savage Worlds!

Fear the Con 2

I spent the weekend at Fear the Con 2 in St Louis, MO.  The guys over at Fear the Boot put this on, and it looks like its going to be a regular event.  I debuted the Atomic Earth board game this weekend officially, and got some cool conversations with other podcasters.  Also, the Watchmen premiered this weekend, and you’re getting my impressions of that event as well.
